Getting Your Baby’s Ears Pierced – My Opinion
This topic can be a bit of a controversial one. People usually feel very strongly over getting a baby’s ears pierced. Most people seem to be against it, so imagine my shock when I had my first daughter and my partners entire family were asking when she was going to get her ears pierced as soon as she was born.
I don’t have anything against parents who choose to get their baby’s ears pierced, but it’s just not for me. I’m one of those annoying women who cries at her baby’s first injections, so taking her to get her ears pierced felt like unnecessary stress and pain for both her and me!
You can imagine how frustrated I started getting when my partners family started saying my daughter looked like a boy and how much prettier she’d be with her ears pierced. It was none of their business as far as I was concerned. I didn’t judge any of them for getting their baby’s ears pierced, so why should they judge me for not doing it?

The question of when I was going to get her ears done came up almost daily from the minute she was born until they eventually gave up when my daughter was about a year old, only for them to start up again when my sister-in-law gave birth to a girl and got her ears pierced when she was about 2 months old.
Comments like “Oh, look how beautiful she is with her ears pierced! I bet you wish you’d had your baby’s ears done now!” Erm. No, I don’t wish that. I genuinely don’t care, and I don’t think a persons beauty can be judged by a piece of metal in their ears. My daughters, now 2 and 4, still don’t have their ears pierced. And they won’t do until they ask to have it done.
In the end, I’m a strong believer in live and let live. I don’t care what other people are doing. As long as I feel I’m doing the right thing for my children and I, I sleep well at night.
